Clinical leadership

Clinical leadership can be an exciting and rewarding responsibility and opportunity. This course explores the skills, approaches and resources required for therapists to take up and sustain themselves as clinical leaders.

What is clinical leadership?

Clinical leadership requires reflexivity and commitment to ongoing personal and professional development. Leading with integrity and genuine collaboration involves consultation, setting clinical direction, leading teams, working in partnership to make service improvements, and managing people and resources to get better outcomes for clients, patients and those that support them.

What you will learn

The course will give you a grounding in the positioning, expectations and opportunities of clinical leadership as an art therapist or psychotherapist within any client group context. It will help those considering moving into clinical leadership, or those in the process of taking up and making the role their own.

The course covers:

  • Principles of clinical leadership
  • The聽importance of values and strategic vision
  • Collaboration, consultation and participation
  • Organisational dynamics and the leadership role
  • The importance of clinical governance and psychotherapeutic thinking
  • Response and repair when things go wrong
  • Wellbeing and connection as a clinical leader

How you will learn

Learning will be through presentations, case examples, discussion groups, creative response and reflective practice.
